The Bukit Tagar Sanitary Landfill is designed, developed and operated by KBE, a joint venture company established between Berjaya Corporation Berhad and KUB Malaysia Berhad. The Sanitary Landfill is premised on a long-term concession awarded by the Government and supervised by Ministry of Housing & Local Government. The Landfill provides sufficient capacity to dispose solid waste from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya for at least 50 years.
The Project has achieved various recognitions by local and overseas professional bodies, among which are the Gold Award of Special Merit for Environmental Engineering by the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia, the Engineering Excellence Award by the IEM, and the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Project Award 2008 by the ASEAM Federation of Engineering Organization.
In addition to this, it is the first sanitary landfill in Malaysia to have CER units successfully issued by the UNFCC. KBE also invested in 4.4MW gas engine which enable it to generate green energy from landfill gas, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, KUB Berjaya Energy Sdn. Bhd.
Amita KUB-Berjaya Kitar Sdn Bhd (“AKBK”) is licensed by the Department of Environment Malaysia to receive and manage Scheduled Waste, as well as transportation of Scheduled Waste under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
AKBK offers a sustainable alternative to conventional method of managing Scheduled Waste. Instead of simply disposing or incinerating the waste, or partially recovering valuable elements in the waste with resultant residue, AKBK's proprietary technology enables Scheduled Waste to be 100% recycled without any residue by turning Scheduled Waste into Alternative Raw Material (ARM) and Alternative Fuel (AF) as substitute for natural raw material and fossil fuel in cement making.
AKBK's pioneering technology achieves sustainability of resources by adopting the 'Cradle-to-Cradle' principle where Scheduled Wastes are recycled for continuous use, in line with the government's Green Industry Strategic Plan.
