PRESS RELEASE
Berjaya Land Breaks Ground For Four Seasons Okinawa Resort and Private Residence Okinawa
Date: 4 March 2024
Venue: Four Seasons Okinawa Resort, Okinawa, Japan
Okinawa, Japan, 4th March 2024 – Berjaya Land Berhad (“BLand”), the leading developer behind the award-winning Four Seasons Hotel & Residences Kyoto, marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its latest luxury venture – the Four Seasons Resort & Private Residences Okinawa.
The project will be developed by Berjaya Okinawa, a wholly owned subsidiary of BLand, in partnership with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts (‘‘Four Seasons’’), the world’s leading luxury hospitality company. The Four Seasons Okinawa is part of a master plan development comprising about 100 acres of land owned by Berjaya along the western coast of the island, known as the Sunset Strip. With easy access by highway from Naha Airport, it is also strategically located near major tourist attractions such as the famous Cape Manzamo.
The Four Seasons Okinawa spans 32 acres, offering stunning ocean views from 127 resort rooms, 124 condo residences, and 28 private villas. Boasting luxury amenities such as indoor and outdoor pools, a ballroom, fitness center, spa, and 5 restaurants and bars with 380 seats capacity, the resort aims to become the most exclusive luxury beach resorts in Okinawa. The design, inspired by Okinawan traditions, features castle-like promontories, village-scale tiled roofs, and elements like rockscape, caves, and lanterns conveys an authentic connection to the location.
Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder and Advisor of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, expressed confidence in the collaboration with Four Seasons, aiming to set a new standard of excellence in Okinawa’s hospitality while looking to further expand Berjaya’s footprint in Japan.
“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Four Seasons and I am confident that our development in Okinawa will become Japan’s premier luxury destination. We will also continue to build a Four Seasons Hotel in Yokohama and we intend to have at least 10 Four Seasons hotels in Japan.” said Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Vincent Tan.
Advance ground works have been completed, with the main construction anticipated to span 40 months. Seikou Okinawa Construction KK, a subsidiary of Berjaya Construction Bhd under BLand, will serve as the project’s main contractor, supported by Japanese subcontractors.
This endeavour solidifies BLand’s leading position in developing ultra-luxury properties in Japan.
Mr Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, BLand Group CEO emphasised the commitment to drive growth and unlock new opportunities in Japan for investors.
“This groundbreaking is a testament to our commitment in generating sustainable value for our stakeholders as we continue to expand our footprint in Japan and seize growth opportunities, creating value for both customers and investors alike.” Mr Syed Ali commented.
The groundbreaking was officiated by the Mayor of Onna Village, Mr. Nagahama Yoshimi, witnessed by Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Vincent Tan, key authorities and representatives from Onna Village and Berjaya Group.
