SAVE OUR PLANET, ONE GADGET AT A TIME
In collaboration with Electronic Recycling Through Heroes (“ERTH”), Berjaya Corporation Berhad’s corporate office launched an electronic waste (“E-waste”) recycling initiative in 2023. This initiative aims to address the increasing concern regarding electronic waste disposal and its environmental impact. In just 6 months, the programme successfully collected approximately 170 kilograms of E-waste. This impressive start highlights the commitment of our employees and the wider community to responsible E-waste management.
ERTH is recognised as the top E-waste collector by Jabatan Alam Sekitar (Department of Environment). They responsibly manage the collected E-waste by dismantling devices, separating the components, and ensure that materials such as metals, plastics and glass are recycled or disposed of properly according to environmental regulations.

Additionally, devices that are able to be refurbished and repaired will be donated to underserved communities and schools, providing them with access to technology that can support community development and education initiatives. Through this initiative, Berjaya is not only preventing hazardous materials from polluting the environment, we are also contributing to the recovery of valuable resources.
GIVING NEW LIFE TO PLASTIC WASTE

Together with the Association of Social Services and Community
Development of Gombak Selangor (“PSPK”), Berjaya initiated an
ongoing recycling project to raise awareness among our employees about plastic recycling, helping to divert plastic waste from landfills
and give it new life. The types of plastics accepted for recycling include food trays, bottles, flower pots, cups, straws, hangers, CD cases among others. All recycled plastics will be transformed into useful items such as flower pots, coasters, and phone stands.
Every second Friday of the month is designated as the collection day for plastic recycling. A collection point has also been set up to facilitate this initiative and support the effort to recycle plastic waste.

OUR SUSTAINABLE CHOICE
Within the retail sector, packaging plays a pivotal role, influencing both consumer choices and environmental impact. Our subsidiary, Cosway Sdn Bhd (“Cosway”) has integrated 30% recycled materials in all bottle and sachet packaging for its products. The bottle labeling has been updated to Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (“PETG”), a 100% recyclable material. This initiative not only helps reduce carbon footprint but also promotes the circular economy by giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Additionally, Cosway has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability through the introduction of innovative eco-friendly products. The company launched a biodegradable beauty face towel, “L’élan Vital”, made from plant-based Eucalyptus fibre. This towel consumes 95% less water than traditional cotton production and 30% less energy than cotton sheets.

In addition to this, Cosway introduced a Xylin® eco-green toothbrush, featuring a handle made from 100% compostable materials. This eco-friendly toothbrush supports sustainable practices from production to disposal, contributing to environmental preservation.
These initiatives underscore Cosway’s dedication to environmental responsibility and showcase its innovative approach to offering sustainable products in the retail market.

REDEFINING PRACTICES AT HOSPITALITY
As consumers increasingly prioritise eco-friendly lifestyle, our subsidiary Berjaya Hospitality Group (“BHG”) is redefining its approach to sustainability. With a diverse array of sustainability concepts and products available, BHG is dedicated to identifying initiatives that align with environmental stewardship in driving practical and meaningful business outcomes.
Integrating natural resources such as bamboo, coconut husk, clay soil, pebble stones, and organic farm waste into landscaping practices, these efforts enhance the aesthetic appeal of the properties and resonate with guests seeking sustainable experiences.
To emphasise eco-friendly practices, BHG implemented contactless and paperless check-in procedures, digital menus using QR codes, online enquiry and feedback forms, e-receipts, and e-newsletters.

Additionally, the initiative to go plastic straw free aligns with efforts to minimise single-use plastics, promoting sustainability throughout guest experiences.
These efforts underscore BHG’s commitment to a greener future and meeting the evolving expectations of environmentally conscious travellers.
