SUSTAINABILITY PILLARS
ENVIRONMENT

ENERGY MANAGEMENT

In FY2025, the Group’s solar-generated electricity reached approximately 2,253 MWh, reflecting the Group’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy sources and reduce reliance on grid electricity derived from fossil fuels and natural resources.

Within the Property Retail (Non-Food) segment, H.R. Owen’s photovoltaic system at its Hatfield site contributed a meaningful share of its energy needs, accounting for around 7% of the site’s total electricity consumption.
BCorp’s commitment to sustainability drives its focus on effective energy management through key energy conservation initiatives. These include LED lighting upgrades and the implementation of smart control systems, as well as improving energy efficiency practices for appliances. The Group also conducts periodic maintenance of cooling systems and chill rooms to ensure optimal performance and reduced energy consumption.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

BCorp’s waste management strategy aims to reduce landfill waste and improve operational efficiency. The Group actively minimizes its environmental footprint across all business segments by implementing appropriate waste management practices.

Other initiatives include composting and food waste management, where food waste is directed to composting systems for fertilizer production. At the headquarters, regular e-waste collection drives are also conducted for employees to ensure responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste.
As consumers increasingly prioritise eco-friendly lifestyle, our subsidiary Berjaya Hospitality Group (“BHG”) is redefining its approach to sustainability. With a diverse array of sustainability concepts and products available, BHG is dedicated to identifying initiatives that align with environmental stewardship in driving practical and meaningful business outcomes.

Integrating natural resources such as bamboo, coconut husk, clay soil, pebble stones, and organic farm waste into landscaping practices, these efforts enhance the aesthetic appeal of the properties and resonate with guests seeking sustainable experiences.

To emphasise eco-friendly practices, BHG implemented contactless and paperless check-in procedures, digital menus using QR codes, online enquiry and feedback forms, e-receipts, and e-newsletters.
These innovations streamline operations to reduce paper waste and promote efficiency. Hotel amenities such as soap bars, shampoo bottles, and toiletries are thoughtfully wrapped in recycled paper, further reducing environmental impact. Additionally, the initiative to go plastic straw free aligns with efforts to minimise single-use plastics, promoting sustainability throughout guest experiences.

These efforts underscore BHG’s commitment to a greener future and meeting the evolving expectations of environmentally conscious travellers.

WATER MANAGEMENT

BCorp is committed to responsible water management and has implemented initiatives to optimize water use and improve efficiency across its operations. Although its business operations are not located in water-stressed areas, the organization recognizes its impact on natural water resources and remains proactive in managing water sustainably.

WATER-SAVING TECHNOLOGIES

The Group also adopts water-saving technologies, such as dual flush toilets, sensor taps, and water aerators on guest room basin taps, to further enhance water efficiency.

RAINWATER HARVESTING

Among its property subsidiaries, selected hotels and resorts, including Berjaya Tioman Resort, as well as recreation clubs such as Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort, collect rainwater through catchment ponds to irrigate golf course greens, sprinkle riding paddocks, and maintain indoor arenas.

Diversifying on-site water resource In addition, The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort has invested in alternative on-site water sources, including tube well drilling and the use of surface water from hill waterfalls, with plans to install water meters for reporting to local authorities.

MATERIALS AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Bcorp has a strong emphasis on responsible resource management, including initiative such as adopting environmentally friendly construction materials. We acknowledge the environmental impact of construction materials and have taken proactive steps to enhance sustainability by adopting green concrete. This approach significantly reduces environmental impact by lowering carbon emissions, minimizing resource consumption, and incorporating recycled materials. In addition, green concrete offers superior durability and proves to be more cost-effective over time compared to traditional alternatives.

In our F&B retail segment, we have shifted towards plant-based offerings. For instance, Joybean specializes in 100% plant-based soymilk and pudding, freshly made daily using Grade A, non-GMO Canadian soybeans.

We are also committed to sustainable packaging and materials, further supporting our efforts to minimize environmental impact across our operations.
Within the retail sector, packaging plays a pivotal role, influencing both consumer choices and environmental impact. Our subsidiary, Cosway Sdn Bhd (“Cosway”) has integrated 30% recycled materials in all bottle and sachet packaging for its products. The bottle labeling has been updated to Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (“PETG”), a 100% recyclable material. This initiative not only helps reduce carbon footprint but also promotes the circular economy by giving new life to materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Additionally, Cosway has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability through the introduction of innovative eco-friendly products. The company launched a biodegradable beauty face towel, “L’élan Vital”, made from plant-based Eucalyptus fibre. This towel consumes 95% less water than traditional cotton production and 30% less energy than cotton sheets.
In addition to this, Cosway introduced a Xylin® eco-green toothbrush, featuring a handle made from 100% compostable materials. This eco-friendly toothbrush supports sustainable practices from production to disposal, contributing to environmental preservation.

These initiatives underscore Cosway’s dedication to environmental responsibility and showcase its innovative approach to offering sustainable products in the retail market.

BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT

BCorp conducts biodiversity risk assessments to evaluate the potential environmental impact for both new operations under considerate and current projects. BCorp demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity across our diverse operations, particularly within our Hospitality and Property segments.

River Rehabilitation (Property Development - Selangor maritime Gateway Project)

One of our highlighted project which our property subsidiary has formed a joint venture with Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) to undertake river cleaning, river rehabilitation and river developments in the Klang Valley, has removed 92,000 metric tonnes of solid waste from the Sungai Klang River. An excavator then lifts the accumulated material onto barges for transfer to a dedicated waste sorting facility. At that facility, recyclable materials are separated for recovery and the remaining refuse is processed in compliance with local environmental regulations. This programme has not only improved water quality and river flow but also helped protect the health and livelihoods of communities along the river.

Turtle Conservation

Our property subsidiaries, including Berjaya Tioman Resort, provide partial food sponsorship for sea turtles at the Turtle Sanctuary managed by the Turtle Conservation Society, a non-governmental organization dedicated to turtle conservation. BLand has also contributed building materials to support the construction and maintenance of the sanctuary’s facilities, helping to ensure that hatchlings and rehabilitated turtles receive proper care.

At The Taaras Beach & Spa Resort, the resort collaborates with the Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU) Turtle Lab to implement a sea turtle hatchling programme. During this period, the resort works closely with SEATRU biologists to monitor nesting sites, protect eggs, and ensure optimal conditions for hatchling release.

Together with the Association of Social Services and Community
Development of Gombak Selangor (“PSPK”), Berjaya initiated an
ongoing recycling project to raise awareness among our employees about plastic recycling, helping to divert plastic waste from landfills
and give it new life. The types of plastics accepted for recycling include food trays, bottles, flower pots, cups, straws, hangers, CD cases among others. All recycled plastics will be transformed into useful items such as flower pots, coasters, and phone stands.

Every second Friday of the month is designated as the collection day for plastic recycling. A collection point has also been set up to facilitate this initiative and support the effort to recycle plastic waste.
