SUPPORTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY
Berjaya Corporation prioritizes local sourcing whenever possible, ensuring that all suppliers meet its standards for product quality, pricing, and sustainability. The company relies heavily on local suppliers, particularly to support local businesses. For example, in the Retail (Non-Food) segment, Country Farms Sdn Bhd supports local organic farmers by enabling direct sales from farms to retailers, strengthening community support and promoting sustainable agriculture.
For specialized materials that are not available locally, BCorp sources them internationally; for instance, aircraft parts required for its Hospitality (Aviation) segment. In FY2025, BCorp maintained a strong commitment to local procurement, with more than half of its total spending (53.20%) directed toward local suppliers.
DEVELOPING SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
REDtone directly supports government initiatives by providing communication access to underserved areas through participation in projects like JENDELA, Time 3, and Pusat Ekonomi Digital Keluarga Malaysia (PEDi).
Through this strategic partnership, REDtone is transforming access in remote areas, strengthening national efforts to close the digital divide and enabling long-term socio-economic impact.
This directly enhances digital connectivity and fosters a knowledge-based economy.
The provision of essential services (e.g. e-banking, telco top-ups) to rural communities and internet access for students directly improves their lives and potentially increases digital transactions within these communities.
DEVELOPING HOUSING AFFORDABILITY
BCorp's Property Segment adopts a strategic approach to property development, tailoring each project to specific market segments and locations, particularly for the Group’s affordable housing initiatives. Our affordable housing portfolio provides low-income individuals and families with safe and comfortable living options.
The Group also contributes directly to economic growth through tailored projects like Bayu Timur condominiums in Berjaya Park, Shah Alam, and affordable homes in Subang Heights. These projects directly stimulate the construction industry, creating significant job opportunities within that sector and supporting a network of local businesses involved in building materials, logistics.
In addition, BCorp’s focus on affordable housing drives broader economic activity by empowering residents with greater financial stability. This enables them to have more disposable income to spend on goods and services, thus supporting a wider ecosystem of local businesses.
INCLUSIVE JOB CREATION
Starbucks Malaysia continued to lead by example in championing inclusion and empowerment of the Deaf community through a series of impactful initiatives such as SEMARAK FSD: Federation School for the Deaf 70th Anniversary, the Pop the Bubble Film Festival for the Deaf, and the BIM Carnival 2024.
