The role of the Inspector of Works (M&E) will be to ensure construction works on site are carried out according to the client’s standards, specifications, and schedule. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, ensuring up to date reporting on on going work. They must have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods, legal requirements, and must be physically fit.
KEY PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
- Monitoring daily work progress and reporting to their superiors should there be any delays on the approved work program.
- Controlling and maintaining the workmanship of construction, ensuring all work done is of quality.
- Coordinating with consultants/contractors on technical issues to ensure smooth progress on site.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Coordinating with consultants and contractors to prepare interpretation and specifications of plans.
- Ensuring contractors comply with contracts, plans, specifications, regulations, and standards.
- Monitoring the movement of all materials on site.
- Responsible for the inspection of workmanship, ensuring compliance to the method of statement of construction.
- Monitoring and ensuring the construction works are maintained.
- Keeping detailed site records of various aspects, which includes regular reporting of work progress or delays, site manpower, weather conditions, drawings received, instructions from the superintendent officer, etc.
- Establishing an appropriate work relationship with the contractor’s staff, carrying out daily site inspections, insisting on corrections on low quality workmanship, and working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Attending various meetings that include site meetings, technical meetings, sub-contractor meetings, etc, and coordinating all site issues while highlighting construction progress to your superior/consultants.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in M&E construction supervision, inspection or site management.
- Strong knowledge of M&E systems, construction practices, relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, method statements and contract documents.
- Good communication and coordination skills with the ability to work effectively with consultants, contractors and project teams.
- Proficient in preparing site reports, maintaining records, and documenting inspection findings.
- Independent, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure to meet project deadlines.
