Job Purpose
To inspect, monitor and ensure that all construction works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, contract requirements, statutory regulations, quality standards and safety requirements. The Inspector of Works is responsible for maintaining high standards of workmanship and ensuring that construction activities comply with the project’s quality and technical requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carry out daily site inspections to monitor the progress and quality of construction works.
  • Ensure all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and contract documents.
  • Verify that construction materials delivered to site comply with approved specifications and standards.
  • Witness inspections, testing and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Identify defective or non-conforming works and issue instructions for rectification.
  • Monitor contractors’ compliance with approved construction methodologies and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain detailed site diaries, inspection reports, photographs and records of site activities.
  • Attend site meetings and provide updates on construction progress, quality issues and site observations.
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, utility providers and relevant authorities to resolve technical issues.
  • Verify measurements and completed works where required for progress assessments.
  • Monitor environmental protection measures, traffic management and housekeeping on site.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational safety and health requirements, reporting unsafe practices immediately.
  • Review shop drawings, material submissions and requests for inspection where required.
  • Assist in monitoring project schedule and highlight potential delays or risks affecting project delivery.
  • Support the Project Manager and Resident Engineer in contract administration and technical matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering, Building, Construction Technology or a related discipline.
  • Registered Inspector of Works with the relevant professional authority (where applicable).
  • CIDB Green Card holder.
  • Additional certifications related to construction quality or safety will be an advantage.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Inspector of Works on building construction projects.
  • Experience in reinforced concrete structures, architectural works, mechanical and electrical coordination, external infrastructure and finishing works.
  • Experience working with government or large-scale institutional projects is an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications and contract documentation.
  • Good knowledge of Malaysian construction standards, Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL), OSHA requirements and relevant codes of practice.
  • Strong inspection, reporting and documentation skills.
  • Ability to identify construction defects and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and preparation of inspection reports.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Full-time site-based position.
  • Required to work outdoors and conduct inspections across all active construction areas.
  • May be required to work beyond normal hours during critical construction activities, inspections and project milestones.
