PRESS RELEASE
Yayasan My First Home Builds Brighter Futures for Orang Asli Communities in Kampung Sungai Bindu, Perak
Date: 14 July 2024
Venue: Tapah, Perak

Yayasan My First Home (“YMFH”) proudly continues its ongoing effort to enrich the lives of underserved communities with a transformative initiative in Kampung Sungai Bindu, Perak. This initiative represents YMFH’s commitment to constructing more than just homes – it’s about laying the groundwork for brighter futures and fostering hope.
Today marks a significant milestone as YMFH celebrates the completion of two bespoke residences in Kampung Sungai Bindu. These homes, meticulously crafted with sturdy foundations and resilient structures, symbolise security and promise for their new owners, Encik Bah Juga and Encik Bah Tian.
“Our mission at YMFH is rooted in bringing happiness and transformation to underserved communities, starting with the Orang Asli,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder and Advisor of YMFH and Berjaya Corporation Berhad. “These homes signify more than just shelter; they represent security, stability, and dignity for individuals and families.”

The initiative to replace dilapidated bamboo structures with sturdy concrete houses has been met with overwhelming demand, with over 250 families and individuals seeking assistance from the foundation.
Recognising the scale of this endeavour, YMFH acknowledges that meeting the demand exceeds its current capacity. Each house, costing approximately RM 60,000 – RM65,000 to build, highlights the call and need for collaboration with government agencies, corporate partners, foundations, NGOs, and compassionate individuals who share YMFH’s vision of improving the quality of life for the Orang Asli.
“A safe and proper house is fundamental to a family’s well-being. YMFH is dedicated to improving the lives of the Orang Asli through safe housing and we invite collaboration from stakeholders to support these impactful initiatives,” emphasised Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun. “These homes provide a foundation for better health, improved education outcomes, and an overall upliftment of the family’s quality of life. They symbolise hope and the potential for a brighter, more secure future.”
Looking ahead, YMFH plans to construct an additional four houses at Kampung Sungai Bindu and sixteen more houses across four to five other locations, continuing its commitment to transforming lives through sustainable housing solutions.
The handover ceremony was attended by various dignitaries and representatives. Among them were Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, the Founder and Advisor of YMFH and Berjaya Corporation Berhad, accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Esther Tan; Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Chairman of Bernama, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Florence Teh; and also, Nambee Ashvin Nambiar, the general manager of YMFH. Also present were members of the Tzu Chi Foundation, including Sister Jamie, Brother Chong Chin Lok, and Sister Emily Cheah, along with other invited guests.
