A conference and exhibition themed "Make a Difference for a Sustainable Future" in conjunction with World Vegetarian Day 2018

In conjunction with the World Vegetarian Day 2018, Berjaya Corporation group of companies ("BCorp") organised a conference and exhibition in collaboration with the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia ("Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia") and supported by Berjaya Youth ("BYouth"). The 4-day event from 11 to 14 October 2018, is part of BCorp’s initiatives to raise awareness and to further enhance the understanding amongst the Berjaya employees and members of the public on issues relating to environmental protection and sustainability.

More than 1,000 participants attended the conference themed "Make a Difference for a Sustainable Future" held on 11 October 2018 at the Manhattan Ballroom, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan, Founder and Executive Chairman of BCorp, took to the stage and shared his experience on how his 3-day trip in Hualien, Taiwan to visit the Founder of Tzu Chi Foundation, Master Cheng Yen, had inspired him to become a vegetarian. Other speakers include, Ms Yeo Kar Peng who spoke about Tzu Chi Foundation and the practice of Environmental, Social and Governance sustainability; Dr. Eddie Chan on the topic "Food as Medicine"; and Mr. Francis Tan with his interactive presentation titled "Co-exist with Mother Earth". These three speakers are all highly respected individuals in their respective fields whom are also dedicated volunteers of Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia.

The 4-day exhibition was held at the Ground Floor and Lower Ground Concourse, Berjaya Times Square from 10:30am to 9:30pm. The exhibition on the Ground Floor wasthe culmination of more than 3 months of efforts put in by the employees from the Corporate Office together with the various operating companies and subsidiaries of BCorp such as Cosway, Starbucks, Kenny Rogers ROASTERS, Wendy's, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Berjaya Clubs, Sports Toto Malaysia, Berjaya University College, Inter-Pacific Securities, U Mobile, 7-Eleven and many more. Working closely with the facilitators from Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia, the employees juggled their time and sacrificed their weekends in developing the concept and layout, sourcing for recyclable materials and creating engaging visuals and displays for the exhibition. Employees took turns to be on duty to manage the exhibition throughout the 4 days.

The exhibition at the Lower Ground Concourse was managed by Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia with fun-filled stage activities, fashion shows and various booths that showcased their environmental concepts, and handicraft items made from recyclable materials. There was also a section dedicated to promoting Jing-Si eco-friendly products, food and beverage as well as pre-loved items available for sale.
