Football Clubs

Cardiff City Football Club

Cardiff City Football Club ("Cardiff City FC") is a professional football club based in Cardiff, South Wales, UK. The club was founded in 1899. Their nickname is the ‘Bluebirds’.

Cardiff City FC currently competes in the Sky Bet Championship, a level below the Barclays Premier League in the English football pyramid system. The club’s highest achievement to date is the 1927 FA Cup win, followed soon after by winning the Charity Shield. Beating Arsenal 1-0 at the old Wembley Stadium, Cardiff City remain the only non-English club to lift the famous FA Cup. The history created in 1927 came only two years after the Welsh club were runners up in the same competition in 1925.

In modern history the club came close to winning the trophy again in 2008, losing narrowly to Portsmouth FC in the final. At that time Cardiff had reached the showpiece final as a Championship club, with Premier League Portsmouth lifting the FA Cup with a 1-0 win. Cardiff also defied the odds in 2012, reaching the final of the Football League Cup. Again they faced Premier League opposition in Liverpool FC, with the game being unexpectedly and courageously taken to an extra time stalemate, with Liverpool lifting the trophy on penalties.

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan acquired a substantial stake in the club in 2009, stepping in to change the club’s fortunes by addressing its financial woes. His bold decisions helped make the club more successful and sustainable. Having come close to reaching the Premier League via the Championship Play-Off Final in 2010, with the full support and backing of Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan, the club ensured promotion to the top flight by winning the division title in 2012/13. It was the first time the club competed in the top division for 53 years. Despite relegation back to the Championship in 2014, the club has ambitions to return to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

Notable achievements during Tan Sri’s first years at the club include:

Champions (2013)
Play-off Final (2010)
Play-off Semi Finals (2011, 2012)

Carling Cup
Runners-Up (2012)

Sarajevo Football Club

In December 2013, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan acquired a majority stake in Sarajevo Football Club (“Sarajevo FC”), a football club in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo FC was founded on October 24, 1946. Based in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo FC is affiliated with the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is the only ordinary member of the ECA - European Clubs Association from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During its 69 years, the club has won 4 championship titles - two in the ex-Yugoslavia (in 1966/67 and 1984/85), as well as two in Bosnia and Herzegovina Championship - in 1998/99 and 2006/07. The club also won the SuperCup of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1996/97, and is the holder of five Cup titles of Bosnia and Herzegovina - in seasons 1996/97, 1997/98, 2001/02, 2004/05 and 2013/14.

Sarajevo FC currently competes at the BH Telecom Premijer Liga BiH, a top division competition in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is a regular competitor of the UEFA competitions. Over the years, Sarajevo FC played official international UEFA games with Manchester United, Borussia Monchengladbach, Dynamo Kiev, Hamburger SV, Cluj FC, Besiktas and Levski.

Since Tan Sri Dato' Seri Vincent Tan took over the majority of the voting and controlling rights of the Sarajevo FC Assembly in December 2013, the club has won the Cup title, and played the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League qualifiers in the 2014/15 season. The team won the Bosnia-Herzegovina Premier League Championship title on 31 May 2015 with a 3-1 win over FK Sloboda Tuzla.

Koninklijke Voetbalclub Kortrijk

In May 2015, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan also acquired a majority stake in a Belgian football club, Koninklijke Voetbalclub Kortrijk (“KV Kortrijk”) in Belgium.

KV Kortrijk is currently competing at the highest level (the Jupiler Pro League) for 7 seasons in a row. Since the introduction of the Playoffs 6 seasons ago, they have reached 3 times Playoff and is one of the 6 best football teams in Belgium.
