Starbucks Coffee recently announced its seven goals with the launch of Starbucks™ Shared Planet™, the company’s commitment in doing business in ways that are both good to the earth and each other in conjunction with Earth Day 2009.
Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ is based on three main categories namely, Ethical Sourcing, Environmental Stewardship and Community Involvement. Under each category, the company strives to achieve global goals by 2015 as follows:
- Ethical Sourcing – 100% of Starbucks’ coffee will be responsibly grown and ethically traded.
- Environmental Stewardship – Starbucks’ cups will be reusable or recyclable.
- Community Involvement – Starbucks will contribute over 1 million hours of community service per year.
In line with that, Starbucks Malaysia has planned to achieve the following goals by 2010:
- Reaching 5,000 volunteer hours in 2009 across Malaysia.
- Achieving 2% target of customers using Starbucks reusable mug over paper or plastic cup in 2009.
- Conducting at least two community activities in support of local neighbourhood causes per district per year.
- Implementing in-store recycling starting from stores in the Klang Valley in 2009.
- Organising the first Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ Store Award Program in 2009.
- Establishing the first Starbucks Social Entrepreneurs project in 2009.
