BERJAYA CSR CARNIVAL 2008 RAISED RM400,000 FOR CHARITY


Berjaya CSR Carnival 2008, organized recently for the first time on 19 January 2008 by the Berjaya Group of Companies received overwhelming response from the staff and the general public where approximately RM400,000 was raised at the Carnival.

The Carnival is one of the CSR activities organized by the Group with the objective to raise funds for the Berjaya Cares Foundation. Proceeds from the Carnival will be channeled towards the areas of community, employees and workplace.

Approximately, 8,000 people thronged the Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort as early as 8.00 am and participated in various activities including telematches, dance performances, muffin eating competition, teh tarik competition, henna tattoo, face painting and stage activities like hula hoop and limbo rock dancing. It was a fun filled day for everyone where over 40 stalls comprising of games stalls, food stalls and merchandise stalls were put up for the enthusiastic crowd to patronize.

A Blood and Organ Donation booth jointly set up with the Assunta Hospital, Kuala Lumpur was put up to encourage patrons and staff to donate organ and blood for the community. A “Breast Cancer Awareness” booth was also put up promoting a booklet entitled, “Taking Pride in Your Life” in collaboration with PRIDE Foundation.

“I am very happy with the support, cooperation and commitment shown by all Berjaya staff towards this Carnival and indeed very proud of their generous contributions towards this noble cause,” said Dato’ Robin Tan, Executive Director of Berjaya Corporation Berhad at the Carnival.

The highlight of the event was the main Raffles Draw which offered the Changan CM8 MPV worth RM45,000 as its main prize. Lady luck smiled on Ms. Christina Tan from the corporate office who drove home the Changan CM8 MPV!

Other prizes consisting of holiday stay for two at Berjaya Eden Park Hotel, London, air tickets and holiday stay for two at Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort and Berjaya Redang Beach & Spa Resort as well as Singer electrical products were given away to lucky winners of the Raffles Draw. About 100 children from three homes namely Rumah Keluarga Kami, Kajang, Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, Semenyih and Sunbeams Home, Cheras were also invited to join the fun.
