The Berjaya Group has been supportive of the Kuala Lumpur Rat Race for a number of years now. As in previous years, the Group contributed RM10,000 towards the Race this year.
Berjaya's team was represented by Mr.Thein Chin Fatt, General Manager of Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort, Mr. Foo Toon Kee, General Manager (Finance) of Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Mr. SD Jayabalan, General Manager (Human Resource) Berjaya Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Tang Meng Loon, Deputy General Manager of Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort and Mr. Kee Tuan Meng, Finance Manager of Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort.
Jointly organised by Bursa Malaysia and The Edge, the 4.5km race took place on 6 September 2005 and was flagged off by Dato' Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, CEO of Bursa Malaysia and Mr. Ho Kay Tat, Group Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Nexnews Berhad at Bangunan Bursa Malaysia.
Berjaya's team leader, Mr. Thein Chin Fatt said that the race provided a splendid opportunity for members of the business community to get our and have fun while doing their part for charity. "We think it's a brilliant idea. It gives the corporate world the opportunity to give something back to the society," he said.
About 490 executives from 56 companies took part in the Race which pledged a total RM821,000 for 10 charitable organisations namely St. Joseph's Home, Penang, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang, Persatuan Mobility Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Asia Community Service, Penang, Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Rumah Bethany Perak, All Women's Action Soceity (AWAM), Petaling Jaya, Persatuan Kebajikan Pesakit HIV/AIDS Nurul Iman Malaysia (PERNIM), Ampang, Shelter Home for Abused Women and Children, Seremban and Persatuan Pendidikan Anak-anak Yatim Lipis, Pahang.
