Ravi Shankar Joins 10-day Relief Mission to Banda Acheh

Ravi Shankar, an employee with Times Square FunWorld (formerly known as Cosmo's World ThemePark) was among the volunteers attached with the Emergency Response Unit of Malaysian Red Crescent Society on a 10-day relief mission to Banda Acheh from 7-17 January 2005, after the 26 December's Tsunami disaster.
Ravi and his team were on a mission to deploy tons of food, medication, clothing and other relief equipments that were donated by Malaysians to Banda Acheh. The team's responsiblities were to locate a storage facility to house the relief items and to begin rapid distribution system to the various relief centers in the area.
It was a sad atmosphere all around, children with no parents and likewise parents trying to locate their lost children. Injured people are also seen everywhere but the most devastating memories were from the number of death, said Ravi relating his experience in Banda Acheh.
According to him, the team had to work for about 20 hours a day, assisting in medical relief, food distribution and trauma counselling to the victims.
"Thi is the time we should come forward and help the victims. It was a good experience for me and I am proud to be part of the mission," he said.
He also thanked the management of Times Square FUnWorld for their kind support, assistance and allowing his to carry out his responsiblities as a volunteer member of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
