BERJAYA Corporation Berhad donated RM231,000 to the Sanhe City Charity Association, which was formed to provide financial aid to the victims of the earthquake.
Berjaya Sanhe Real Estate Development Co Ltd (Berjaya’s subsidiary in China) head Kevin Tan presented the cheque to the chief of civil affairs bureau of Sanhe Wang Shao Hua.
“Both Berjaya and its employees feel the need to help the Chinese community in every possible way especially during this difficult time,” he said after presenting the cheque in Beijing last Wednesday.

The cheque was presented through the subsidiary company in China. The company is based in Hebei Province and has good ties with both the Sichuan and Chongqing governments.
Berjaya employees in China had also contributed to the donation, Tan said.
The earthquake that hit Sichuan Province has claimed over 40,000 lives.
Meanwhile, Easy Pha-Max Marketing Sdn Bhd donated 100,000 yuan to the Sichuan victims.
The money was channelled to the victims through the Chinese Embassy.
The company’s chief executive officer, Datuk Yeat Sew Chuong, presented the cheque to the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia Cheng Yong Hua on May 20.
“Our hearts were moved by the May 12 earthquake which killed thousands of people,” said the company’s group executive director Wong Kin Nam in a press statement.

One of the company’s targets is to raise enough funds to help the Sichuan authorities rebuild schools that had been destroyed during the earthquake.
Also joining the good samaritan list is the Jalong DAP branch that raised RM125,000 for both the Sichuan earthquake and cyclone Nargis victims in Myanmar.
Jalong assemblyman Leong Mee Meng, who handed the money to the party’s national treasurer Fong Kui Lun at the Parliament lobby last Thursday, thanked the residents of Sungai Siput, Perak, for their generosity.
Fong said the bulk of the money would be handed over to the Chinese embassy next week, while a part of it would be passed to World Vision Malaysia to be channelled to Myanmar.
The DAP in Klang also made its contribution by raising RM35,000 for the earthquake victims during a charity dinner at the Hokkien Association building last Tuesday night. Some 1,800 people attended the dinner organised by the Klang Utama, Sri Pinang and Jalan Pasar DAP branches.
The cheque was later presented to state DAP chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
Also present at the dinner were the party’s secretary-general, Lim Guan Eng, state party leaders, Lembah Pantai assemblyman Nurul Izzah Anwar and Klang Chinese community leaders.
