Fashion bazaar offers best of Malaysian designers

MASTERPIECES by 12 local fashion designers have been gathered under one roof for the convenience of shoppers, both locals and tourists.

Named “Designers Souq,” the bazaar-like fashion heaven at the concourse area of KL Plaza is organised by the Kuala Lumpur Tourism Action Council and ends today at 11pm.

It is sponsored by Celcom (M) Bhd and supported by City Hall, Tourism Malaysia and Berjaya Group Berhad.

At the launch last week, City Hall director Salleh Yusof said that, as many tourists from the Middle East were visiting the city, such an effort to gather Muslim or Malay-flavoured apparel together would help them choose the perfect souvenirs to take home.

As fashion was one of the targets of shoppers, fashion designers could help propel the city to international recognition and make Kuala Lumpur a fashion hub 0on par with others in the world, he said.

He also encouraged other traders to extend their business hours throughout the Mega Sales Carnival until 2am, if not the next morning.

Global Business Group Celcom (M) Bhd deputy president Syed Mohd Najib Syed Noor said the thoughtful effort should be given due support.

He added that the company hoped to promote its prepaid package, X-pax, as well as other services, such as international roaming and Celcom Budget IDD, to tourists.

Also present were Raja Puan Mahkota Perak Raja Nazatulshima Almarhum Sultan Idris, Tengku Putri Sri Kemala Pahang Tengku Aishah Sultan Ahmah Shah, Tengku Zalilah from Perak, Tourism Malaysia director Kamaruddin Siaraf and Berjaya Group Berhad executive director Azlan Meah Ahmad.

Decked in blue and white, with a hint of red, the chiffon-covered canopies at the bazaar feature works by Tom Abang Saufi, Nazleen Noor, Ridz Collection, Salikin Sidek, Noor Arfa Batik, Adnan Hassan, Amin Jauhary, Andy Sulaiman, Trendy Busana Muslim, Melors Apparel, Jarumas Concepts and Wardrobe.

Works of 12 local designers are available at the Designers' Souq.
