Business tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan has personally pledged to donate RM3mil to the Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Hospital in honour of his 81-year-old mother Low Siew Beng.
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the money would be used to reconstruct and build new buildings as well as buy new medical equipment.
“Madam Low is a caring, kind and generous mother. She has done a lot of charity work without the knowledge of the public.

“We admire her generosity and willingness to help the needy,” Ong told a press conference after witnessing the cheque presentation ceremony from Vincent’s son Datuk Robin Tan to hospital president Datuk Dr Nellie S. L. Tan at Wisma MCA here yesterday.
Dr Tan thanked Low and her family for their support of the 75-year-old hospital in Seremban.
“To show our deep appreciation, one of the buildings at the hospital will be named after Madam Low,” she said, adding that the hospital had served people from all races since it was established.
She said the hospital, which needed RM20mil, would continue the charitable clinic for the less fortunate.
Among the measures taken to help the poor were waiver of fees at its outpatient clinic for physically and mentally retarded patients, a fee of only RM10 for consultation with a family physician plus five days’ supply of basic medication at its outpatient clinic, and a fee of RM600 for midwife delivery plus hospitalisation package.
At the same press conference, Ong said Vincent also pledged to donate RM1mil to Mawar Renal Medical Centre in Seremban to upgrade its medical equipment and facilities.
“He is also donating RM6mil to build new Chinese primary schools, and expand and relocate existing ones, through MCA.
“We appreciate the generosity of Vincent who has not forgotten to pay back to the community and the country through charity works,” he said.
